London Knights sign free agent defenseman Andoni Fimis

The London Knights’ defensive lineup is anchored by the impressive Sam Dickinson, whose fiery performance has captured attention, and the seasoned, versatile Oliver Bonk, who brings a wealth of experience to the ice.

Henry Brzustewicz and Jared Woolley have taken significant strides in their development this season, and both are expecting to carry the workload when their teammates ship off to represent Canada at the 2025 World Junior Championships.

When Dickinson and Bonk are away from the Knights organization, their depth on defense will need to step up, and the NCAA rule change has allowed them to sign free agent defenseman Andoni Fimis.

Those who follow the OHL will recognize that last name. Yes, Andoni Fimis is the younger brother of Erie Otters' star centerman Pano Fimis.

Andoni, 18, was drafted in the fifth round, 99th overall, by the Kingston Frontenacs in the 2022 OHL Priority Selection.

In his draft year, he played for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, a team that now features stars in the OHL: Porter Martone, Jacob Battaglia, Anthony Cristoforo, Henry Mews, and Montreal Canadiens' first-round pick, Michael Hage.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-shot defenseman was a star in the OJHL in 2023-24 with the Stouffville Spirit. He scored 12 goals and 43 points in 55 games, which led his team in points by a defenseman and the eighth-most in the league by a blueliner.

Fimis announced his commitment to play in the NCAA for the University of Vermont in November 2023, explaining that although his older brother Pano decided to head down the OHL route, he was always leaning towards the school route, as he felt it gave him more time to mature and develop.

After spending one season in the OJHL, he made the switch to the BCHL this season and has put up 13 points in 22 games for the Cowichan Valley Capitals.

Andoni will wear #4 for the London Knights, last worn by Isaiah George.

London faces off against Erie on Dec. 18, where the Fimis brothers will have an opportunity to play against each other and establish bragging rights heading into Christmas dinner.
