Earlier today, Calgary Flames prospect Luke Misa announced his commitment to play Division 1 hockey for Penn State University. The 2005-born forward was eligible to return to Brampton as an overage player next season.
For the past four seasons, Misa has played for the Brampton Steelheads, who drafted him ninth overall in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. In 259 OHL games, he's amassed 235 points, averaging 0.91 points per game.
While he scored at well under a point-per-game pace in his first two seasons, he's scored 80 or more points the last two years. The Calgary Flames drafted him in the fifth round of the 2024 NHL Draft after his first 80-point campaign.
Misa is a patient player with good vision who does well in transition. Despite being only 5-foot-10, he plays well below the dots in the offensive zone. He is fairly quick, though his top speed is average.
The commitment comes as a blow to a Brampton roster that disappointed this season. Despite having a roster that featured elite talent, they finished middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference. It's hard to ask for more when the lineup included elite players like Carson Rehkopf, Porter Martone and Jack Ivankovic.
2025 Third-Overall Pick And Son Of Former NHLer Both Sign In Ottawa
Earlier today, the Ottawa 67's announced the signing of 2025 third-overall pick Brock Chitaroni to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. They also signed 2024 tenth-round pick Jaxson Williams who is the son of former NHLer Justin Williams
Brampton's loss will be Penn State's gain, as they pick up a solid NHL prospect who has developed well over the last four seasons.
Much like the Henry Mews signing, this is a move that should worry the OHL. While Misa would have been an overage player next season, he undoubtedly would have returned under the previous system. As things stand, the OHL has lost another talented player.
Penn State fans should get excited about adding an NHL prospect to its roster. We will see how Misa develops at the NCAA level.
Misa is the older brother of Michael Misa who many expect to be drafted in the first round of the 2025 NHL Draft.
