Ten OHL players named to Team CHL for the inaugural CHL USA Prospects Challenge

The CHL has announced the roster for Team CHL ahead of the inaugural 2024 CHL USA Prospects Challenge set to take place next month on Nov. 26 and 27.

22 players from the QMJHL, WHL, and OHL were selected from a list of the top 2025 NHL draft-eligible prospects as generated by a survey conducted with all 32 NHL teams.

Team CHL consists of 13 forwards, seven defensemen, and two goaltenders. The OHL and WHL have 10 players on the team, while the QMJHL is represented by forwards Justin Carbonneau and Caleb Desnoyers.

Below are the 10 OHL players listed to play at the upcoming event along with their current-to-date season statistics:

    Forwards:

    C, Brady Martin (Soo Greyhounds) - 11GP, 4G, 7A
    RW, Porter Martone (Brampton Steelheads) - 9GP, 10G, 10A
    C, Michael Misa (Saginaw Spirit) - 11GP, 15G, 7A
    C, Jake O'Brien (Brantford Bulldogs) - 9GP, 5G, 2A
    LW, Malcolm Spence (Erie Otters) - 10GP, 4G, 8A

    Defensemen:

    LHD, Kashawn Aitcheson (Barrie Colts) - 8GP, 2G, 3A
    RHD, Quinn Beauchesne (Guelph Storm) - 4GP, 0G, 0A
    LHD, Cameron Reid (Kitchener Rangers) - 11GP, 2G, 7A
    LHD, Matthew Schaefer (Erie Otters) - 1GP, 1G, 0A

    Goaltenders:

    Jack Ivankovic (Brampton Steelheads) - 5PG, 4-0, 1.71GAA, .936SV%

As expected, all seven OHL players who received an "A" rating by NHL Central Scouting in their 2025 draft watch list — Porter Martone, Michael Misa, Matthew Schaefer, Jake O'Brien, Brady Martin, Malcolm Spence, and Kashawn Aitcheson —  made the team.

Kitchener Rangers defenseman Cameron Reid was given a "B" rating and Quinn Beauchesne a "C." Goaltender Jack Ivankovic was given a "B" but the argument can absolutely be made for him to be an A-rated prospect. He's a special goaltender.

Porter Martone and Michael Misa have gotten off to incredible starts, quickly throwing their hats in the ring to challenge for first overall in 2025. This event will be an excellent opportunity for scouts to witness how those two in particular play against the Under-18 U.S. National Team Development Program.

This team plays against NCAA competition throughout the season and the players on it have been playing with one another for two years. This experience should, in theory, make them a more structured team, which means that finding space and time to make plays will be more challenging.

On an interesting note, Martone and Aitcheson will be teammates for a couple of games after the two got into a pretty heated altercation on Oct. 12 during the Brampton versus Barrie game, which resulted in Aitcheson getting suspended for two games

Aitcheson isn't the only player on the team to have been suspended this season.

Steelheads goaltender Jack Ivankovic decided to drop the gloves in a rare goalie fight with Niagara IceDogs netminder Owen Flores back on Oct. 6. The two goalies were given four-game suspensions due to it being a goalie fight and because their scrap was the second fight during the stoppage in play.

As we get closer to the dates of the two games in late November, we will preview what fans can expect to see from the OHL stars on Team CHL.
