The Ontario Hockey League announced yesterday that Jackson Parsons of the Kitchener Rangers is the 2024-25 winner of the Jim Rutherford Award, which is awarded annually to the OHL Goaltender of the Year.

Parsons has played for Kitchener since the Rangers drafted him in the third round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. In four years, he's played 130 regular-season games and maintained a 2.88 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage.

He spent his first two years with Kitchener in more of a backup capacity, playing only 27 games. However, in the last two years, he's shouldered a heavy load playing more than 50 games in back-to-back years.

He's coming off the best regular season of his OHL career. This season, he was one of the top goalies in the league, finishing second in GAA and save percentage during the regular season. Austin Elliot, who beat him in both categories, did so while playing nearly 20 fewer games than Parsons.

It's been a big year for the 2004-born goaltender who became the first OHL player to commit to an NCAA school when he announced his commitment to Clarkson University in November.

At the conclusion of the season, he will join a Clarkson hockey program as part of the first wave of players to move from the CHL to the NCAA. The undrafted goaltender of the year will have the opportunity to continue to develop while getting a college education.

Before that, he and the Rangers still have playoff games left in front of them. They are currently playing in the Western Conference Finals of the OHL Playoffs against the London Knights.

The Rangers find themselves in a dire situation, down 3-0 in the series against the reigning OHL champions. However, they are no strangers to the reverse sweep, having defeated the Windsor Spitfires in round two after losing the first three games of that series.

Parsons played a huge role in the series victory over Windsor and he will undoubtedly have to do the same if Kitchener wants to get past the Knights.
