Buffalo Sabres prospect Doman Szongoth has inked a contract with the Soo Greyhounds
Forward Doman Szongoth has signed an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Soo Greyhounds, the team has announced.
Szongoth was a first round pick of the Greyhounds in the 2025 CHL Import Draft. He is the Soo's second import signing in as many days, having signed import goaltender David Vermirovsky on Monday.
In a statement, Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis called Szongoth "a complete package", praising the center for his "strong two-way game".
We believe his work ethic, character, and experience competing in professional environments since the age of 16 will allow him to make a significant impact with our team while continuing his development both on and off the ice. We’re excited to have Doman make the jump to Sault Ste. Marie and look forward to helping him take the next step in his hockey journey.
The first Hungarian-born player drafted in the NHL since 2002, Szongoth was selected 156th overall by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2026 NHL Draft. No Hungarian has ever appeared in an NHL game.
The forward Szongoth spent last season in Finland's youth system for KooKoo, appearing in 44 Finnish U20 games with 10 goals and 18 points.
Szongoth captained Hungary's U18 team at the U18 D1A with five points. Szongoth has also appeared internationally at the World Juniors Division B, the Hungarians promoted to Div. A.
Szongoth has already appeared at the men's level internationally for Hungary, appearing at the 2026 World Championship, playing all seven games and registering a point.
