Earlier this week, the Erie Otters issued a statement concerning the organization's future. An update was necessary due to the unexpected passing of owner, governor and CEO Jim Waters in December.
The Waters family announced they will remain involved with the team in order to continue Jim's legacy.
"In keeping with our longstanding commitment to excellence both on and off the ice, the family's collective vision will steer the team through this exciting time," said the statement. "We're confident that this united, family-led approach will continue to honor Jim's legacy and maintain Erie's reputation as the best city for hockey in the Canadian Hockey League."
While the family remains involved with the team, there will also be significant changes. Senior Vice President of Business Operations Chaf Westerburg is leaving the organization to pursue other opportunities as the Director of Business Development with Erie Events.
"I am incredibly thankful to the Erie Otters for the opportunities, support and experiences I've had during my time here," Westerburg via the statement.
The team has yet to announce who will replace Westerburg.
Continuing the theme of changes, Larry Chapman, the Otter's Chief Financial Officer will also shoulder the role of Governor for the organization.
The family also stated that season ticket holders should expect an invitation to a town hall event to meet the Waters, Chapman and the rest of the organization's staff.
It has been a turbulent year for Erie both on and off the ice. The team has managed to succeed in spite of these issues and is poised to make the playoffs.
