The Windsor Spitfires Hockey Club and the city of Windsor have announced that the Canadian National Junior Team Summer Camp will be hosted at the WFCU Centre.
The camp begins on July 28 where two games featuring Canada’s National Junior Team will be played.
The first game will be a red versus white Canada game on July 30, 7:30 pm EST, followed by a visit by the Tre Kronor, when Canada and Sweden face off on July 31 at 7:30 pm EST.
In case you missed it, Ottawa 67’s Head Coach Dave Cameron is the head honcho behind Canada’s bench for the upcoming World Juniors later this year.
Cameron, alongside Saginaw’s Head Coach Chris Lazary, will be closely watching the upcoming training camp later this month as they aim to assemble the best U20 Canadian squad.
You can bet that top OHL-drafted prospects by NHL teams in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft like Beckett Sennecke, Zayne Parekh, Sam Dickinson, and possibly Jett Luchanko, will all be in attendance as they look to make a good first impression at making Team Canada.
Also, you have to assume that the reigning top point producer from the 2023-24 OHL season, David Goyette, will get a considerable look this time around.
Another player who could be seen as a dark horse to make Team Canada for the 2025 World Juniors is London Knights forward Denver Barkey.
Barkey scored 102 points last season and added another 27 in the playoffs during London's run to the OHL Championship. But the Philadelphia Flyers' game without the puck could be impactful in a depth role.
He may be smaller in size, but he's not afraid of contact. He always finishes his checks on defenders while on the forecheck. In addition, he and his teammate Easton Cowan were two of the OHL's best and most dangerous players while shorthanded.
Other top Canadian prospects from the OHL who are expected to be at the camp include Easton Cowan, Oliver Bonk, Colby Barlow, Calum Ritchie, and Carson Rehkopf.
Cowan and Rehkopf both would be returnees for Canada after representing them at the 2024 World Juniors
