Ryan Roobroeck Sets a New Niagara IceDogs Franchise Rookie Point Record

With his 49th point of the season, rookie Ryan Roobroeck has set a new Niagara IceDogs record for most points as a rookie in franchise history.

Last night against the Mississauga Steelheads at home, a Niagara IceDogs rookie made franchise history. 

Ryan Roobroeck scored his 49th point of the season, breaking the record for most points as a rookie in Niagara IceDogs history. Roobroeck breaks the record previously held by Akil Thomas, a current LA Kings prospect. 

Roobroeck scored the only goal for his team in a 3-1 loss to the Mississauga Steelheads, but it is a historical night that he will remember. This was his 28th goal of the season, which is first among all 2007-born players.

Roobroeck is one of those players that when he has a clear lane to the net, it is likely ending up in the back of it. His shot and natural goal-scoring ability are what make him valuable as a prospect. When his team needs a goal, he is always the one that gets the shot.

Between his release, deceptiveness, and ability to find shooting lanes, Roobroeck is impossible to track. He scores a lot on the rush, where he is looking to pass all the way, until the very last second when he decides to shoot. His shot is powerful, and he scores often from far out. 

The concerns around Roobroeck's game as a prospect are in the other areas of his game. He's not the quickest player, and he's not the most engaged away from the puck. Being said that, Roobroeck has taken many strides this season.

The former London Jr. Knight has certainly gained a step in his stride over the course of this season, he is engaging more physically with his frame, and moving the puck around more.

These signs of improvement are critical in this stage of Roobroeck's career, as he still has two more full seasons before he is draft eligible — he is a late 2007-born player. 

If he continues on this trend of progression, Roobroeck will undoubtedly be a top prospect in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft.
