In a surprising twist, Seattle Kraken prospect Andrei Loshko will depart from the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies organization and set his sights on Niagara after they have claimed him off waivers.
Loshko, who will turn 20 in October, is coming of a 67-point season (28+39) with the Huskies during the 2023-24 season. He joined the Huskies after two seasons with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.
All-in-all, the Belarusian winger potted 163 points (66+97) over 179 games in the QMJHL.
The decision to cut a player of Loshko's caliber must've came down to two things. Import status and overage limits.
Loshko, being both an import and now an overager, left the Huskies in a tough spot.
Instead, the Huskies will carry 18-year old Latvian defenseman Harijs Cjunskis and 16-year old Swiss forward Lars Steiner, who had a strong tournament at the Hlinka-Gretzky this year.
Currently, the Huskies will rotate between four overagers in 2023-24 QMJHL point leader Antonin Verreault, 40+ point defenseman Ty Higgins, 30+ point defenseman Alex Carr and former QMJHL third overall pick Leighton Carruthers.
