Roster cuts have begun to take place as the QMJHL pre-season carries on, and the Cape Breton Eagles have made one move that came as a bit of a surprise, cutting Austrian forward Konstantin Hutzinger on Saturday.

Hutzinger, 18, was a training camp invite and was fighting for one of the team's import spots. The 5-foot-8 forward scored a goal in yesterday's intrasquad scrimmage, but that wasn't enough to keep him around in the eyes of the Eagles' decision makers.

The Austria native played most of last season with the Bishop Kearney Selects U18 AAA team, scoring 66 (37+28) points in 68 games, while also representing his country at the world under-18 D1A level, recording two assists in five games.

Hutzinger previously was committed to play the 2025-26 season with the Cranbrook Bucks of the BCHL before receiving the QMJHL camp invite, so it's likely he'll return there to begin the coming season.
