Moncton Signs Red Wings Prospect, NCAA Commit From The USHL

The Moncton Wildcats have announced today that they have officially come to terms with goaltender Rudy Guimond.

Guimond, 19, has held an .887 save percentage across six games this season with the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the USHL.

He is a prospect within the Detroit Red Wings system, as he was drafted in the sixth round of the 2023 NHL Draft after maintaining a .940 save percentage across 28 games with the Taft School, of the US Prep school circuit.

The undrafted QMJHL free agent joins the Wildcats after weeks of speculation about the Yale commit's potential arrival to the league and team.

Guimond's arrival is a bit of a surprising one as the Wildcats have two more than capable goaltenders in Jacob Steinman, who recently committed to Bowling Green and has a .924 save percentage this season, and Keegan Warren, who is on the back of returning from double hip surgery after posting an .899 save percentage last season.

So far, it is unclear what this means for the Wildcats, but barring an injury, one has to speculate that Keegan Warren's time as the team's backup is over.

    Other signings

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens announced yesterday that they had signed 17-year old defenseman Quinlan Perry.

Perry, a former 10th round pick by the Sags, had played one game (0+0) in the BCHL this season with the West Kelowna Warriors.

He is currently uncommitted to any NCAA program.

Earlier this week, the Baie-Comeau Drakkar had signed 18-year old winger Charles Beland.

Beland played nine games (0+0) with the BCHL's Blackfalds Bulldogs, before signing with the Drakkar as an undrafted free agent.

    He is also uncommitted.
