The Hlinka-Gretzky Under-18 Cup started yesterday in Edmonton with four games.
The tournament kicked off with a game between Sweden and Slovakia, ending with Sweden winning 4-3 in overtime. Despite coming out on the losing end, Quebec's fourth overall pick in the import draft, Andreas Straka, came out with a an assist.
The second game of the tournament also ended in overtime, with Germany pulling off the upset on Finland with a final score of 2-1.
Speaking of upsets, the United States would drop a game to Czechia 2-1. Gatineau draft pick, Stefan Cerny didn't register a point but was playing top pair minutes.
The night ended off with Canada blowing out Switzerland in a 10-0 win. The two Saguenéens stars Emile Guite (2+1) and Alex Huang (1+2), who are both on our summer 2025 NHL Draft watchlist, notched three points each, tied for the second in the tournament. Alternate captain Caleb Desnoyers (Moncton) and Halifax's Liam Kilfoil both added an assist each. Lucas Beckman backed up Jack Ivankovic who posted a 20-save shutout.
With Switzerland left off the board, Florian Schenk (Saint John) and Lars Steiner (Rouyn-Noranda) will hope to get their first points of the tournament today against Sweden.
