Remparts bid wins out over Moncton Wildcats in the final round. Newfoundland and Gatineau were also entrants.

The bidding process is over, and Québec City and the Quebec Remparts have been selected to host the 2028 Memorial Cup, the 108th edition of junior hockey's most iconic event.

The Remparts won in a final round over the Moncton Wildcats. CHL personnel travelled to each arena over the past couple of weeks to evaluate the facilities, crowd, and more. In the end, Québec City's Centre Vidéotron won out, and will get to play host to the illustrious competition.

This event will mark the first time since 2015 will be held in Québec City, which also played host to editions in 1991 and 2003.

Other bidders to host this year's event were Gatineau and Newfoundland, both of which were removed from consideration over the summer, which left Moncton and Québec City as finalists.

The Remparts remain the most recent QMJHL team to win the Memorial Cup, with their loaded 2023 roster led by Patrick Roy still standing as the last time a non-OHL team has won the championship.

This year, Quebec is filled with a strong, young core, led by stars in Maddox Dagenais, Carter Meyer, James Scantlebury, Nathan Quinn and Patrick Deniger.

An immediate thought now is, despite holding one of the best records in the league at 8-2, if the focus for the Remparts now shifts to next year's team. At a minimum, they likely won't spend many premium assets on rentals to this year's group, and will instead focus on keeping their young talent around another season.

On Moncton's side, they have a decent group this year that's fallen into a rough stretch after a 5-0 start to the year. A well-coached and well-run organization thanks to the MacDougalls, the Wildcats are always competitive.

Off back-to-back trips to the QMJHL championship series, will Moncton push the envolope again with no guaranteed Memorial Cup to think about for 2027-28 now? Or will they continue course with their retooled roster.

We'll get answers to all these questions in the coming months. For now, Québec City will celebrate and begin getting ready to host the Memorial Cup.
