Following the announcement of the departure of second rounder Cruz Scanzano, the Saint John Sea Dogs have announced that they have dropped former top import selection Florian Schenk and pre-season surprise Coen Miller.
Schenk, 17, was the Sea Dogs' first round pick (seventh overall) in the 2024 CHL import draft. The 6-foot-4 centerman had potted just four points (2+2) over 24 games with the team.
The 2025 NHL draft eligible will return to SC Bern Jr., where he tallied 25 points (7+18) over 42 games last season.
This leaves the Sea Dogs with only one import in captain and Washington Capitals prospect LW Eriks Mateiko (19 in 23).
Miller, 18, had two points (0+2) over 20 games with the Sea Dogs this season.
The right winger joined the team via trade from the Sherbrooke Phoenix last season, and netted 20 points (7+13) over 32 games with the Sea Dogs -- after only netting five points (2+3) over 18 games with Sherbrooke.
Needless to say, there was an expectation by the team that he would remain a key part of the Sea Dogs offense -- especially after a strong pre-season which saw him tally seven (4+3) across five games.
