The Sherbrooke Phoenix have announced the firing of general manager Philippe Sauve.
Sauve, 45, managed the team starting in 2023-24 through 2024-25, marking a 65-55-12 record.
This was the former Colorado Avalanche second round pick in 1998 and three year NHL veteran's first foray into management and while his tenure was fairly shortlived, it is hard to call it a distinctly poor one.
In both seasons at the helm, Sauve's team finished third in the division and lost in the first round. Additionally, the team saw a two point increase from his first to his second year -- despite four less games on the schedule this season.
While the junior cycle is vicious and his team may not have made a significant jump over last season, the team still boasts a young core -- many of whom drafted by or traded for by Sauve -- who have yet to have even secured a chance at being drafted to the NHL.
33 QMJHL Skaters And Six Goaltenders Make NHL Central Scouting's Final Rankings
NHL Central Scouting's final rankings for the 2025 NHL entry draft are officially here. 39 QMJHL talents are featured on this iteration of the list -- including <a href="https://media.d3.nhle.com/image/private/t_document/prd/zgqnbu6snufgqsqrdvjg.pdf">33 skaters</a> and <a href="https://media.d3.nhle.com/image/private/t_document/prd/vmgusukenf2fcvhvk98g.pdf">six goaltenders</a>.
By the end of it, a post-mortem of Sauve's tenure by La Tribute revealed a difference of opinion between ownership and his vision.
Should Sauve choose to remain on the business side of hockey, his albeit short tenure in Sherbrooke should provide a fairly strong reason for his consideration should any general manager seats open.
Former Rouyn-Noranda Huskies coach and manager Gilles Bouchard -- who currently runs the bench in Sherbrooke -- will take over managerial responsibilities while the team looks to secure a new general manager.

Victoriaville Tigres defenseman Maddox Labre's season may have ended a lot sooner than anticipated as his team missed the playoffs, however his off-season has gotten off to a strong start -- snagging a commitment to Ohio State University.
