University Of Maine Nabs QMJHL Star, Carolina Hurricanes Prospect

The QMJHL will lose it's first star early to the NCAA as Baie-Comeau Drakkar star forward, and Carolina Hurricanes prospect Justin Poirier for the 2025/26 season.

Poirier, 18, is coming off of a 58 game, 80-point season (43+37) with the Drakkar, finishing with the fourth most goals in the league.

He joined the Carolina Hurricanes organization last season, getting selected in the fifth round of the NHL draft following a 51-goal season.

This means that he wraps up a three year QMJHL career, scoring 210 points (122+88) through 181 games, all with Baie-Comeau.

While the Memorial Cup's finals is still set to kick off tonight at 7 PM, the QMJHL will be nowhere to be found on the ice despite Rimouski hosting the event as both the Rimouski Océanic and the Moncton Wildcats have found themselves eliminated ahead of the big game.
