At the end of his 84-point (35+49) NHL draft year campaign, which finished with a QMJHL championship, playoff MVP trophy and winner of the QMJHL's best professional prospect trophy, it had came out that Moncton Wildcats forward Caleb Desnoyers had been battling with wrist injuries throughout the season.
While injuries tend to cause teams to hesitate on players at the draft, the Utah Mammoth grabbed him at fourth overall, higher than most projections, in spite of the injuries.
It turns out, those injuries will not be resolved by training camp as Desnoyers had to go under the knife, opting for surgery, in order to repair one of his wrists. with Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong saying they expect the player to miss 12 weeks as he recovers.

This is a tough blow for all parties as Desnoyers was anticipating trying to make the NHL team out of camp, but also a tough sell for the Wildcats who will miss their star player until November.
