The Drummondville Voltigeurs have announced that overage centerman Sam Oliver has committed to the University of New Hampshire for the 2025-26 season.
Oliver, 20, has 31 points (20+11) over 26 games with the Voltigeurs, leading them in goals and just trailing fellow overager Luke Woodworth for the points lead.
The 2024 QMJHL champion has amassed 204 points (107+97) over 264 games in the league, split between the Charlottetown Islanders and the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
Oliver is the second player to commit to an NCAA organization while inside the QMJHL after the restrictions on major junior players being ineligible to play Division-1 hockey was dropped earlier this month.
The Voltigeurs also announced that left winger Maxime Lafond has left the organization.
Lafond, 18, had four points (1+3) across 24 games with the Voltigeurs this season.
Across three seasons and 152 games in the QMJHL, all with the Volts, he has picked up 35 points (10+25).
Off the back of a career high 23-point season and playing a strong defensive role on the QMJHL championship winning Voltigeurs team last season, we had him listed on our 2024 NHL Draft watch list.
As of right now, it is unclear where the 6-foot-5 winger will end up, however I'm sure teams are interested in the chance of filling out their roster with a player of the size and championship pedigree as Lafond.
In other Drummondville news, the team announced the signing of goaltender Jacob Leblanc.
Leblanc, 18, has been playing with Stanstead College in the Canadian high school circuit.
The Magog, Quebec native has an .860 save percentage across six games at the CAHS level, and a .908 save percentage over two games in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League -- according to EliteProspects.
The 5-foot-10 goaltender is uncommitted to an NCAA program as of yet.
Leblanc is expected to remain for the remainder of the season before joining the Voltigeurs for the 2025-26 season.
It's possible that he'll back-up Louis-Felix Charrois (.918 over eight games) next season as starting goaltender Riley Mercer (.942 over 18) likely either turns pro or heads to the NCAA, himself.
