Borya Valis is officially a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Prince George Cougars forward signed a three-year entry-level contract with Toronto on Saturday, joining Noah Chadwick, Nathan Mayes and Miroslav Holinka, who are also part of the organization. Valis was not drafted but did attend Detroit Red Wings development camp this past summer.
In a press release, head coach Mark Lamb wrote, "Val has earned this contract. He came here with a mindset to get better every day and have an open mindset on trusting the process and coaching. He’s a great example of what it takes to be a pro. I’m very proud of Val on his accomplishment and I’m excited about what his promising future holds."
Valis has been dominant this season with Prince George. He has already set a new career-high with 73 points and has helped the Cougars lock down a playoff berth. The soon-to-be 21-year-old has 216 points in 236 regular season games and has played for both Prince George and the Regina Pats.
