Storm Look For Revenge Against Omaha

On Saturday, the Tri-City Storm had the distinction of being the first team to lose to the Omaha Lancers in the last 112 days. Tuesday, the Storm will seek revenge to begin a four-game homestand at Viaero Center.

Tri-City held a 3-1 lead over the Lancers after 40 minutes, only to see it slip away. Down 3-1 with less than six minutes remaining in the third, Omaha used Tanner Morgan and Mikhail Katin goals to tie the score prior to the end of regulation. Chris Battaini took a pass from Morgan and scored at the side of the crease with 1:08 left in overtime for a 4-3 Omaha victory.

It was the Lancers’ first win since Nov. 16, 2024 and only their seventh of the 2024-25 season. The win snapped a 30-game losing streak (0-26-3-1) for Omaha, who is at the bottom of the USHL standings at 7-37-6, 20 points. Two of those victories have come against the Storm, both in overtime.

The Lancers came back down to earth on Sunday, falling to the Sioux Falls Stampede at home 6-3. Morgan, Davis Borozinskis, and Charlie Vig tallied goals for Omaha.

Tuesday is the sixth of eight regular season meetings between Tri-City and Omaha. The Storm (24-23-4, 52 pts, 6th place Western Conference) have won three of the first five matchups. A scheduled two-game home-and-home set on Friday, March 28 (at Omaha) and Saturday, March 29 (at Tri-City) will wrap up the 2024-25 series between the in-state foes.

The Storm offense is led by Nolan Roed (25-29-54), who ranks seventh among all USHL players in points. Roed notched a goal and an assist on Saturday in Omaha.

Artemi Nizameyev (23-24-47) follows. The Miami commit gathered an assist on Saturday, his first point in six appearances.

Carmelo Crandell (12-26-38) places third on the roster in scoring. The Arizona State commit has produced a point in four of his past seven games.

Borozinskis (10-21-31) leads Omaha in scoring. The Western Michigan commit has contributed four points over his past two games after putting up a goal and an assist Sunday against Sioux Falls.

Vermont commit Sam Scheetz (9-10-19) ranks behind Borozinskis in second. Scheetz registered one assist on Sunday.

Brian Lonergan (3-14-17) ranks third on the roster in scoring. Lonergan registered a career-high three assists on Saturday against the Storm.

The game serves as a makeup for the clubs’ postponed Saturday, Jan. 4 contest in Kearney. Puck drop for Tuesday’s game is set for 7:05 Pm CT.
