On Tuesday morning, the Dubuque Fighting Saints announced that Teddy Merrill will take over as team captain, succeeding former captain Luke Malboeuf. They also revealed that Merrill’s alternates will be Charles Arend, Michael Barron and Colin Frank.
Last season, Merrill held the honour of Alternate Captain, where he was able to record 21 points on a split of 5/16. The 20 year old forward played in 58 of the 62 games last year, and is excited for his next steps with Dubuque, stating that playing for the club “has been an unbelievable experience, and I’ve been fortunate to learn from some great leaders along the way… with the special group we have this year, I can’t wait to get to work.”
When asked about his leadership team selections, Head Coach Evan Dixon noted that “They all have grown so much in their time in Dubuque, and that experience will help them to confidently lead and continue to carry our culture in the right direction. They are true Fighting Saints and very deserving of this opportunity.”
Coach Dixon believes wholeheartedly in the 2025-2026 leadership group for Dubuque, hoping that they will lead their organization back to the Clark Cup, where they fell just a little short to the Fargo Force.
The Dubuque Fighting Saints season opens up against the Sioux City Musketeers on September 17th.
