A new trade on Wednesday between the New Jersey Devils and the San Jose Sharks finds Shane Bowers landing with the latter, and Thomas Bordeleau finding a new home in New Jersey.
Before being drafted to the Ottawa Senators in 2017, Shane Bowers joined the Waterloo Black Hawks as the youngest player on their new squad. Topping off the season with an All-Rookie Second Team nod, Bowers made his presence known in the USHL by tallying 15 goals and 18 assists to round out his 33 point season.
In his second season with the Black Hawks, Bowers matched his linemate Nick Swaney to a career high of 51 points on the season in 60 games. Finishing the 2016-2017 season with a plus/minus of +14, Bowers’ draft stock rose as he was selected 28th overall, the fourth highest pick in Black Hawks franchise history.
After being drafted, Bowers took two years to play in the NCAA with Boston University where he went on to score a combined 53 points. But, before leaving Boston to pursue his NHL career, Bowers was selected to join the 2019 Canadian World Juniors team where they would sadly fall short of victory finishing in sixth place overall.
In 2019, Bowers was picked up by the Colorado Avalanche, but truly found his home in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles, playing throughout the COVID-19 pandemic with them until he signed with the New Jersey Devils in 2023. Once again, Bowers was shifted down to the AHL with the Utica Comets where he spent most of his time preparing to be called up for New Jersey.
In the past two years with the Comets, Bowers accumulated 31 points, and is now ready to begin a new chapter with the San Jose Sharks.
