The USHL announced Monday that Michael Mesic, Maxon Vig and Cale Heil have been named USHL Players of the Week for March 24-30.

Forward Of The Week: Michael Mesic, Youngstown Phantoms

Mesic scored twice in the Phantoms’ 6-1 win over the Fargo Force Friday night.

Mesic followed up that performance with his first career hat trick on Saturday in a 5-3 comeback win over the Force. The Phantoms trailed at one point by three goals before roaring back to take the victory.

Mesic led all USHL skaters in goals this past week (five) and tied for second in points (five). He finished the week with seven shots and a +3 rating.

Defenseman Of The Week: Maxon Vig, Cedar Rapids RoughRiders

In a 7-1 victory over the NTDP U18 squad Friday night, Vig picked up an assist on the second goal and scored midway through the second period.

Vig also scored in the RoughRiders’ 6-4 win over NTDP. It was the first time this season Vig has found the back of the net in back-to-back games.

For the week, Vig finished with four shots and a +5 rating.

Goalie Of The Week: Caleb Heil, Madison Capitols

Heil stopped 43 of 45 shots in Madison’s 5-2 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks Friday, including 18saves each in the first and third periods.

In Saturday’s 3-2 loss to Muskegon, Heil was still solid in net, making 39 saves on 42 shots.

Heil earned Goalie of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, finishing this past week with a 1-1-0-0 mark, 2.54 goals-against average and .943 save percentage.
