Ottawa Draft Pick Filip Nordberg Highlights USHL Players of the Week

The USHL announced its Players of the Week on Monday as NTDP forward Richard Gallant, Sioux Falls defenseman Filip Nordberg and Des Moines goaltender Max Weilandt took home the respective honors for games played between March 3-9.

Gallant is the second consecutive NTDP forward to earn the honors following Lukas Zajic. Gallant, who is committed to Harvard, scored three goals as the U18s earned a pair of wins in Green Bay. He scored once on Friday and tacked on another three points (2-1-3) in Saturday’s 6-3 victory.

It was Gallant’s third three-point game of the season, two of which have been against Green Bay. The Massachusetts native has nine goals and 17 points through 19 USHL games this season. He also finished last week with an even plus/minus and fired six shots at the Gamblers net.

As for Nordberg, the Ottawa second-round pick (2022) had three points as Sioux Falls also earned a pair of wins. Nordberg netted the game-tying goal and assisted Gennadi Chaly’s game-winner on Saturday as the Stampede earned a 2-1 win in Sioux City. He scored again Sunday afternoon in Omaha, giving him five goals on the season.

Nordberg has 15 points through 44 games after putting up 14 (1-13-14) in 52 last season. He was also a plus-2 last weekend and is a plus-18 on the season.

Rounding out the group is Weilandt, who made 73 of 77 possible saves on the weekend. The Illinois native made 36 saves Saturday against Cedar Rapids, guiding the Bucs to a 2-1 overtime win. He made 37 more on Sunday in a shootout win, 4-3, over the RoughRiders. Weilandt also made two stops in the shootout.

Weilandt is now 14-10-2 on the season with an .889 save percentage and 3.07 GAA. He’s won three of his past four starts and Des Moines has points in three straight.
