Alex Pelletier is lighting up the United States Hockey League. The Lincoln Stars forward is in his second full season at the USHL level and is putting the league on watch.
Through 46 games played, Pelletier has recorded a league-leading 39 goals and 27 assists, good for a tie with Youngstown Phantoms forward Cooper Simpson for the USHL lead in points with 66. This is a strong sign of continued growth over his time with the Stars.
“I think a big part of my game is confidence. After last season, where we won the Anderson Cup, I’ve come back even more confident,” Pelletier said during an interview on Wednesday. “My shot quality and quantity is very high this year, and I’ve had the puck on my stick a lot. I obviously could not have done this without some of the terrific linemates I have had.”
Lincoln has become a special place for Pelletier, really embracing everything that comes with being a part of the two-time Clark Cup Champion Stars.
“I have nothing but great things to say about Lincoln as an organization. I’m lucky to have great coaches, staff and teammates,” Pelletier said. “The coaching staff has done a great job developing me as a player. They are really demanding, and I wouldn’t have it any other way, they make you better hockey players. I would recommend Lincoln to any future players coming into the USHL.”
The success of Pelletier’s career with the Stars doesn’t just revolve around point totals, as for the 2025-26 season, Pelletier was named one of the team’s alternate captains, a moment that was not lost on the 20-year-old.
“I obviously took it as a big honor and privilege to be named assistant captain for such a great organization like the Stars,” Pelletier said. “Day by day, I’m just trying to lead by example and do the little things right for my teammates. As an older player in the league, I just want to do things the right way both on and off the ice.”
Through 49 games, the Stars find themselves in fifth place in the USHL’s Western Conference, having posted a record of 22-22-4-1. Finding themselves firmly within the playoff picture, the Stars have the opportunity to use the remaining 13 games to get themselves ready for playoff hockey.
“We’ve kind of had a rollercoaster-type season. We started out pretty bad, then we got hot, then cooled off again, so we are kind of viewing this as our fourth stretch of the season where we can hopefully end on a high note and play our best hockey at the right time,” Pelletier said. “You want to be playing your best hockey in March and April as you head into the playoffs. That’s our goal to be playing our best hockey at the right time.”
The Stars may have just found that level, coming off a weekend that saw them defeat the second-place Fargo Force twice, Pelletier feels those wins can help grow the belief among his Stars teammates.
“I think those two wins give us a lot of confidence. Fargo is a really good team, so just seeing what our team did against a top team like them gives us confidence,” Pelletier said. “It shows us that we can have success against really good teams.”
Upon completion of the season, Pelletier is heading to Boston College to become an Eagle, an opportunity that has been a lifelong hockey goal for the forward from a very young age.
“I was born in Connecticut, only about an hour and a half away from Boston College. Anyone who grows up playing hockey in the area would be lying if they told you they didn’t want to go to a Beanpot school to play college hockey,” Pelletier said. “When the opportunity presented itself, it was something I couldn’t turn down. I couldn’t be more excited about going to Boston College; it’s a dream come true.”
With the season entering crunch time, Pelletier remains focused on the goals at hand, while offering a glimpse into what the future might hold for his hockey career.
“I want to dominate each game and help our team win a Clark Cup. That’s what we all want in our room,” Pelletier said. “Down the road, I want to finish out a strong career at Boston College. It is a great spot to help me develop my game to hopefully sign a pro contract and one day play in the National Hockey League.”
The Stars are back in action on Thursday night when they host the Sioux Falls Stampede. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. CST.
