The Youngstown Phantoms got back into the win column. Twice, actually.
Landan Resendes potted his first goal in a Youngstown sweater and the overtime-winner to help the Phantoms to a weekend sweep over the Chicago Steel.
Forward Adam Benak, who entered Friday night without points in three straight games, scored a pair of power-play goals between both contests. If you recall, he was our player to watch for Youngstown in the weekend preview.
Defenseman Carter Murphy scored his first and second USHL goals. The latter temporarily gave Youngstown a one-goal lead near the midway point of the third period on Saturday.
Goaltender Owen Lepak made his first start in nearly a month and turned aside 17-of-21 to pick up his first USHL win.
Black Hawks Achieve Road Split
The Waterloo Black Hawks went into Tyson Events Center and came away with a pair of wins this weekend.
Six different Waterloo skaters found the back of the net, including Brendan McMorrow, who capped a three-goal first period for the Black Hawks on Friday night.
Netminder Daniel Moor made 17 saves on 21 shots and picked up his third win in his last four outings.
The following night, Waterloo again saw a balanced offensive attack.
Four different skaters recorded goals in regulation, including Sam Huck, who tallied his fourth to tie the game at 2-2 in the second period.
Forward Teddy Townsend, who temporarily gave Waterloo the lead early in the third period, scored the lone goal in the shootout.
Tri-City's Finds Scoring On Home Ice To Earn Split
The Tri-City Storm entered the weekend having scored just 16 goals in seven games at the Viaero Center, one of the lowest marks for teams on home ice.
However, Tri-City exploded for eight goals in two games on the weekend, including seven on Friday night, to earn the split against Sioux Falls.
Carmelo Crandell tallied a pair of first-period goals and finished with a team-high four points overall on Friday. The Alberta native also picked up assists on Colton Whitfield's marker in the first period and Artemi Nizameyev's tally in the third.
Nizameyev found the back of the net again with just over one minute left in regulation, giving him his second multi-goal effort of the season.
The Storm were not as fortunate on Saturday night, as the Herd were backed by John McNelis and Hunter Anderson's goals to salvage a win.
The latter made his season debut and finished the weekend with three goals on six shots between the two games.
