Ivan Korodiuk is heading to the NCAA.
Bowling Green State University and head ice hockey coach Dennis Williams announced the Madison Capitols defenseman has enrolled at the school and will suit up for the Falcons.
Korodiuk, a native of Kyiv, Ukraine, will join BGSU as a mid-year enrollee following the holiday break.
The 6-foot-five-inch left-shot blueliner committed to BGSU in September. Upon joining the team, he will tie for the second-tallest defenseman on the Falcons.
In 19 USHL games with the Capitols this season, Korodiuk posted a goal and seven assists for eight points along with 12 penalty minutes and a +12 rating.
Korodiuk spent three seasons in the NAHL with the Danbury Jr. Hat Tricks, where he was named an assistant captain for the 2023-24 campaign. During that season, he put up 25 points (3-22-25) over 60 games.
In 110 games of junior hockey, Korodiuk has totaled 42 points (5-37-42).
Not counting the U.S. and Canada, BGSU will now have players from six different countries with the addition of Korodiuk: Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Slovakia and Ukraine.
Korodiuk is expected to officially join the Falcons the weekend of Jan. 3 and 4, 2025, when the team travels to lake Superior for a two-game series.
There will almost certainly be an adjustment period from the USHL to NCAA competition. That said, Korodiuk should bring size, mobility and range to the Falcons’ back end. He’s a competitor in the blue paint and sees the ice well, according to Williams.
