U.S. Division rivals meet in the second round as the Everett Silvertips take on the Portland Winterhawks. This was a series that Everett dominated, as they picked up wins in six of the eight matchups this season. As for playoff history, these two met last year, with the Winterhawks sweeping the Silvertips in the second round.

Both Everett and Portland had gruelling first-round series. The Silvertips needed six games to defeat the Seattle Thunderbirds, while the Winterhawks beat the Prince George Cougars in seven. Each series also included two overtimes, with both teams participating in a game that surpassed 90 minutes.

For Everett, the big question is whether they will be able to overcome some of the injuries they have sustained. The Silvertips are missing Carter Bear, Landon DuPont, and Tyler MacKenzie. While Everett does have plenty of depth, losing multiple key players is going to be a challenge.

As for Portland, they are going to need Tyson Jugnauth and Kyle Chyzowski to keep leading by example. Chyzowski finished the first round with four goals and 14 points, while Jugnauth sits tied for the WHL lead with 16 points. If these two can keep racking up the points, it will go a long way in helping the Winterhawks advance to their second straight Western Final.

In the end, this series is going to come down to goaltending. Both Raiden LeGall and Ondrej Štěbeták had strong first rounds and even stole games for their teams. If both can continue to shut the door, this could be a long series.
