Another WHL star is headed to the NCAA. According to multiple reports, including one by Brandon Wheat Kings play-by-play commentator Rob Mahon, center Roger McQueen will be joining Providence College next season. McQueen is one of a number of high-profile WHLers who will be departing the league this season, which also includes Gavin McKenna, Cole Reschny and Jackson Smith.

Due to injury, McQueen only played 17 games during the 2024-25 regular season. He scored 10 goals while recording 20 points. McQueen played 127 WHL regular-season games over the past four years, recording 35 goals and 51 points during his time with Brandon. 

This year, McQueen also became the second WHLer selected in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. He was selected by the Anaheim Ducks, who took him 10th overall. Listed at 6'6", 198 lbs, McQueen joins an organization full of current and former WHL talent, which includes Tarin Smith, Nico Myatovic, Olen Zellweger and Tomáš Suchánek. 

Losing McQueen puts the Wheat Kings in a difficult position. He was their number one center and played in all situations. With McQueen now gone, look for players like Luke Mistelbacher, Jimmy Egan and Jaxon Jacobson.
