Brayden Yager recorded an assist, while Scott Ratzlaff stopped 12 of 13 shots in the loss.

Team Canada kicked off their 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase on Wednesday with a 3-2 shootout loss to Team Sweden. Eight WHLers dressed for Team Canada, including Seattle Thunderbirds goaltender Scott Ratzlaff, who played the second half of the game and stopped 12 of 13 shots he faced in regulation. The only WHLer to register a point was Moose Jaw Warriors Brayden Yager, who recorded the primary assist on Canada's first goal of the night. 

As for the shootout, Yager was one of four shooters for Canada but was unable to solve Melker Thelin. As for Ratzlaff, he went 2-4 in the shootout. Ultimately, it was a tough start for the Canadians as they were unable to pick up a win in Windsor. 

Team Canada's next matchup will be against Team Finland on Friday afternoon. Some of the WHLers expected to play for the Canadians are Berkly Catton, Riley Heidt, Andrew Cristall, and Carson Bjarnason. The puck drop is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. PT from Michigan.
