Team Canada defeated Team Finland 8-6 at the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase.
Andrew Cristall had two goals and two assists, while Riley Heidt recorded three points as Team Canada took down Team Finland 8-6 at the 2024 World Junior Summer Showcase. Eight WHLers participated in the game, including Carson Bjarnason and Joshua Ravensbergen, who split the goaltending duties. Labeled Team White, this was not the same team that fell to Team Sweden in a shootout 3-2 on Wednesday.
Overall, it was a good day for WHLers, as a handful of them were able to get on the scoresheet. In addition to Cristall and Heidt, Tij Iginla finished the game with two goals, while Caden Price had an assist. In total, the three Kelowna Rockets combined for half of Team Canada's goals while finishing with seven points.
As for the goaltenders, Bjarnason stood out as the better keeper, stopping eight of the nine shots he faced. As for Ravensbergen, he struggled, making 11 saves on 16 shots. The goaltending minutes were split pretty close down the middle, with Bjarnson playing the first 31 minutes before Ravensbergen took over.
Team Canada will wrap up their tournament on Saturday with a much-anticipated game against Team USA. With both teams deploying split rosters for the first two games, the roster for this game will be a good indicator of which players both teams are seriously looking at for the 2025 World Juniors. Puck drop is scheduled for 1:00 pm PT from Michigan.
