Landon DuPont follows Connor Bedard as the only two exceptional status players in WHL history.
Landon DuPont is officially heading to the WHL next year. The league's second-ever exceptional status player signed his WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Everett Silvertips on Tuesday and is expected to play a significant role for the team next season. As mentioned, DuPont is the second player in league history to be granted exceptional status, joining Connor Bedard, who received the designation in 2020.
Listed at 5'11", 170 pounds, DuPont is a dynamic defender who dominated at the U18 level last season despite only being 15. In 30 games, he posted 62 points and was named CSSHL U18 Top Defenseman. DuPont also helped lead Edge School U18 Prep to a championship, recording 16 points in five games and being named playoff MVP.
In a statement, GM Mike Fraser wrote, "We're excited to have Landon and his family committed to the Silvertips. We're looking forward to having Landon suiting up with us this season having been granted his exceptional status. He's a speedy, smart, dynamic player who will fit in nicely with our core group of defensemen."
Everett opens its season on September 21 against the Vancouver Giants. While no roster has been set, DuPont is projected to be in the lineup and making his WHL debut. Fans can purchase tickets to the game and all Silvertips games in September.
