Gavin McKenna is projected to play a key role for Team Canada at the 2025 World Juniors.
Gavin McKenna has been almost unstoppable throughout his WHL career. Last year's CHL Rookie of the Year has 175 points in 107 games and is the first player this year across the CHL to hit the 60-point mark. Now that December has arrived, McKenna is ready to trade in his Medicine Hat Tigers jersey for a Team Canada one and compete at the 2025 World Juniors.
While the official roster has yet to be released, McKenna is expected to be part of Team Canada at this year's tournament. The 16-year-old has already won Gold multiple times with Canada, including at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup earlier this year. Even though he will be the youngest player on the roster, he is projected to play a crucial role both in the top six, as well as on the power play.
Once the tournament starts, McKenna will join an exclusive group of U17 WHLers to play for Team Canada at the World Juniors. The list includes Connor Bedard in 2022, as well as former Tigers defenceman Jay Bouwmeester in 2000. As for their results, Bouwmeester picked up a Bronze in Sweden, while Bedard helped Canada capture Gold in Czechia.
As mentioned, McKenna is expected to play a significant role for Canada at the upcoming tournament. While this is a deep squad, Canada will need McKenna to be at his best if it wants to win Gold in 2025. The 2025 World Juniors from Ottawa are scheduled to start on December 26 and run until January 5.
