J.P. Hurlbert is headed to the Detroit Red Wings.

J.P. Hurlbert has been selected 23rd overall by the Detroit Red Wings in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. The Kamloops Blazers left winger was ranked 12th among North American Skaters by NHL Central Scouting. This season, Hurlbert scored 42 goals while posting 97 points in 68 games. 

Hurlbert had a rookie season to remember in the WHL. Listed at 6'0, 183 lbs, he finished the campaign on the WHL's First All-Star Team and was named Rookie of the Year. Next season, Hurlbert will be headed to the NCAA, where he will join the University of Michigan.
