The Kelowna Rockets were dealt a massive blow on Wednesday as it was announced that Tij Iginla will miss the rest of the 2024-25 season. The Utah Hockey Club prospect underwent successful hip surgery, which will keep him out of the lineup. Through 21 games this season, Iginla scored 14 goals and sat second on the Rockets with 32 points.
Finding a replacement for Iginla is going to be a challenge as he is one of the top offensive players in the B.C. Division. Last season, he recorded 47 goals and is just under a point per game for his WHL career. Iginla was also part of Team Canada U18 team last season, recording 12 points in seven games en route to a Gold Medal.
The question for Kelowna now is, what direction do they go in for the rest of the season? The 2026 Memorial Cup hosts have started the season 11-10-2-1 and currently sit ninth in the Western Conference. Led by NHL-drafted prospect Andrew Cristall, Caden Price and Jakub Stanc, the Rockets are a team with plenty of talent that, if they get hot, can go on a run this season.
