The WHL is set to play a significant role in this year's 2024 NHL Draft. 57 players were included on NHL Central Scouting's final rankings, with a handful expected to be drafted in the first round. Today's draft profile is of Regina Pats' Tanner Howe, who enters the draft as the 41st-ranked North American Skater.

Howe proved the doubters wrong this season as he showed he can generate offensively without Connor Bedard. Named captain at the beginning of the season, Howe put up 77 points in 68 games and was consistent despite playing for a rebuilding team. Ultimately, Howe stepped up and demonstrated that he doesn't need a star on his wing to be successful.

When watching Howe, one aspect of his game that stands out is his strength. Listed at 5'10", 184 pounds, he is hard to knock down and is able to use his strong body position to win battles along the boards. Howe is also great at winning position battles, which, when he receives a pass, leads to scoring opportunities in high-danger areas.

Howe is a player that leads by example. It feels like he has an endless motor, which allows him to get back defensively and in a position to create a turnover. Howe has also shown an ability to throw massive hits as he continually puts his body on the line for the betterment of the team.

One area of Howe's game that does need a little more work is driving while transitioning the puck. He often elects to pass the puck when either entering or exiting the zone, which can lead to turnovers. If he can utilize his speed and agility a bit more by carrying the puck through the neutral zone on a more consistent basis, it will make him a more dangerous player and could lead to more scoring chances for Regina next season.

When it comes to draft position, Howe is projected to be a second-round pick. He has all the tools needed to be an effective middle-six winger and may even get a chance at a reunion with Bedard, as the Blackhawks own two picks in the second round this year. Wherever he ends up, the team selecting him will not be disappointed, as Howe has a bright future ahead of him.
