The Teddy Bear Toss continues to be one of the best traditions in the WHL. Every year, thousands of bears flood the ice across the league in a charity effort to bring gifts to children in need. This year in Everett, the honour belonged to forward Dominik Rymon, who made it rain stuffed animals thanks to his 16th of the season.
Rymon didn't make Silvertip fans wait long as he ripped home the Teddy Bear Toss goal 2:52 into their game against the Vancouver Giants. Immediately after scoring, he was mobbed by his teammates on the ice as bears and other stuffed animals filled the ice surface. As he explains, it was a very special moment.
"Oh, it was awesome, said Rymon. I don't know how many bears, but that's awesome."
While Rymon was on the Silvertips last season, he missed last year's event due to injury. That night, Austin Roest scored the goal that sent the bears flying. Looking back, he remembers how fun it was to watch the event but is grateful he is healthy and was able to participate this season.
"Last season was tough for me. I didn't play very much. I was injured for, like, all season. I'm grateful for this season that I am healthy.
Overall, this has been a special season for Rymon. Not only does he lead the Silvertips in assists and points, but he should have the opportunity to represent Czechia at this year's World Juniors. The third-highest import scorer in the WHL with 38 points in 31 games, it is safe to say he is making the most of his opportunities this season.
