For the first time in program history, Bishop's University are the U Sports Canadian women's hockey national champions.
Entering the national championships as the third ranked team, Bishop's beat hosts Waterloo in the final 3-0.
After a scoreless first period, Gabrielle Santerre broke the deadlock for the Bishop's Gaiters. Last season, Santerre was the first rookie in U Sports women's hockey history to also be named U Sports Player of the Year.
Her performance in the U Sports national championships this year put another accolade in her trophy case.
Following Santerre's second period goal, she assisted on a late goal from Gabrielle Rousseau to give Bishop's a 2-0 lead. Just over a minute later, Santerre picked up her third point of the game assisting on Maude Pépin's empty net insurance marker.
Pépin was one of two members of the Bishop's Gaiters named Second Team U Sports All-Canadians alongside rookie Daphné Boutin.
Gaiters' netminder Ericka Gagnon stopped all 27 shots she faced in the game.
Waterloo entered the tournament as the eighth seed but upset their way to the final.
Gabrielle Santerre led the tournament in scoring with seven points in three games. Concordia's Jessymaude Drapeau and British Columbia's Mackenzie Kordic finished tied for second with six points each.
