This weekend, NCAA women's hockey is set to take over Nashville for the SMASHVILLE Women's Collegiate Hockey Showcase. The event features four teams at Ford Ice Center Bellevue involving Penn State, Merrimack, Clarkson, and St. Thomas.

On Friday, Penn State takes on Merrimack to open the tournament, prior to Clarkson facing St. Thomas. The losers of each game will play in a consolation game Saturday, followed by a championship game between the winners.

Clarkson has remained in the top 15 throughout the 2024-25 season thus far, ranking sixth in the nation this week with a 12-3-1 record.

Penn State has also found themselves in the top 15 nationally all season, currently sitting 12th with an 13-3-0 record.

Merrimack currently sits last in the Hockey East standings, while St. Thomas is seventh in the WCHA.

The annual event will showcase several top players this weekend to Nashville. Among those players are American national team members Tessa Janecke (Penn State) and Haley Winn (Clarkson), as well as Canadian national team member Nicole Gosling, and Anne Cherkowski who represented Canada at the Rivalry Series last season.

Gosling, Winn, and Cherkowski are considered top prospects for the 2025 PWHL Draft.

The University of St. Thomas women's team is coming out of a period of turmoil following an alleged incident involving now former head coach Joel Johnson who resigned last week.
