The Syracuse women's hockey team and Robert Morris women's hockey team will stick together this weekend for Sticks Together.
Sticks Together is a not-for-profit foundation, launched by Syracuse forward Sarah Thompson, that aims to provide resources to children in underprivileged communities so they can have the opportunity to learn and play hockey.
Saturday, November 4, RMU and Syracuse will face off for a 3pm game partnering with Sticks Together to bring awareness about the organization's goals, including to bring hockey to Palwan, Philippines this coming spring. Last year Sticks Together brought the game to Muizenberg, South Africa.
In South Africa, Thompson was joined by another member of Sticks Together, Robert Morris forward Madison Primeau. Primeau spent the past two seasons playing for Syracuse, where she joined the efforts of Sticks Together, before transferring to Robert Morris. Now the two programs, led by Thompson and Primeau, can put their efforts together again.
"I'm beyond grateful to have the support of the school, athletics department and community to support our foundation here at my new home of RMU," said Primeau. "We're more than hockey players and it's a blessing to spread the game to new places."
"Teaching young children in South Africa last spring and sharing that experience with Madi is one of my most treasured memories," said Thompson. "I am very excited to relive those moments with her this weekend and celebrate Sticks Together at RMU!"
The duo will stand at center ice prior to the game for a ceremonial puck drop featuring Syracuse director of hockey operations Tracey Edson who attended the first Sticks Together trip in 2022 teaching hockey in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
