Canada Names National Development Team And U-18 Select Team For Series Against USA
Hockey Canada has named 22 players to their National Development Team set to face USA's Collegiate Select roster, and 22 players to their U-18 Select roster. Both teams will play a three-game series against USA this month.
Hockey Canada has named 22-player rosters for both their National Development team and U-18 National Select team to face USA in three-game series' this month in Richmond, British Columbia.
“We are thankful for all the athletes who competed and provided intense competition at the under-18 and development selection camps. There were difficult decisions in selecting the 44 players who will represent Canada against the United States in Richmond this week,” said Cherie Piper, senior manager of scouting and player development. “We are incredibly proud of all our athletes who have been selected, as any opportunity to compete against the United States is invaluable. These series will provide our players with a chance to challenge themselves on the international stage while continuing their development within our programs.”
Canada named new head coaches for both rosters prior to their selection camp this week. Canada's National Development team will be led by Vicky Sunohara, while their U-18 National team will be guided by Nadine Muzerall.
The 22 players for each were chosen from 40 player rosters from their selection camp.
National Development Team Brings Next Wave Of Talent
With Canada looking to rebuild their senior national team, this year's National Development team holds more importance for Canada than ever.
Up front, Canada looks well stocked with young players including Jocelyn Amos (Ohio State), Emma Pais (Colgate), Caitlin Kraemer (Minnesota-Duluth), Abby Stonehouse (Penn State), Stryker Zablocki (Northeastern), Sara Manness (Clarkson), Rosalie Tremblay (Wisconsin), Hayley MacDonald (Ohio State), Maxine Cimeroni (Ohio State), Claire Murdoch (UConn), Grace Outwater (Penn State), Eloise Caron (Northeastern, and Jordan Baxter (Ohio State).
On the blueline Canada is bringing Chloe Primerano (Minnesota), Piper Grober (Cornell), Ava Murphy (Wisconsin), Emma Venusio (Wisconsin), Rosalie Breton (Quinnipiac), Makayla Watson (Quinnipiac), and Kate Manness (Clarkson), while the crease will be tended by Eve Gascon (Minnesota-Duluth) and Mari Pietersen (Boston University).
The biggest omissions from Canada's roster were Mackenzie Alexander (Princeton), Gracie Graham (Minnesota), and Rhyah Stewart (Wisconsin).
U-18 Roster Filled With Young Potential
Canada's U-18 Select team is bringing a plethora of young potential, albeit unproven on the international stage aside from a small handful of returning plaers.
Canada's blueline is impressive including standouts like Megan Mossey, Rory Matt, Avery Jones, Renee Lapointe (Minnesota-Duluth), Maeve Aird, Jordan Mulvihill, Whitney Basso, and Raeya Mackie.
Up front, Adrianna Milani (Minnesota) leads the way alongside veterans Maggie Hughson, and Madison Levesque. They'll be joined by Tatiana Deblois, Demi Lazarou, Riley Pettit, Chloe Martineau, Ryann Chimera, Madi Bryk, Skylar Ruschpler, Audrey Martone, and Savannah Halleran.
In net, Maija St. Pierre and Claire Hicks earned spots.
The biggest omissions for Canada were Mikayla Barnes, Adie Schneider, and Annabella Van Berkel.
