Greece captured the women's Division 1 title at the 2025 LATAM Amerigol Cup in Coral Springs, Florida this week defeating Team Caribbean 5-2 in the championship game.
In the opening frame, Kalliopi Vrahnos who plays D2 ACHA hockey for Michigan State opened the scoring for Greece. In the second, Yana Samouilidis, who plays NCAA DIII hockey for Chatham University scored her first of three goals on the night to give Greece a 2-0 lead.
Caribbean would fight back however with goals from former Concordia University forward Daniela Gendron and current NCAA DIII forward Emma Deman who plays for Stevenson University.
Before the second period was done however, Samouilidis would score her second of the game, which would eventually stand as the game winner. Heading to the third period up 3-2, Alex Mitsakis who will play NCAA D1 hockey for Stonehill beginning in 2027 added an insurance marker before Samouilidis finished her hat trick.
Anastasia Makrogiannis who plays 16U 'AAA' for the Mid Fairfield CT Stars last season made 14 saves in the win.
Mitsakis led the tournament in scoring with 10 points in five games for Greece.
Caribbean's second team at the tournament won the Division II title earlier in the week beating First Nations in the final.
The tournament itself is "designed to break barriers and unite non-traditional hockey markets in a thrilling display of skill, passion, and camaraderie" which it has since 2018.
The Amerigol Cup began with a focus on Latin American teams, but has since grown to help foster developing hockey nations globally.
