The SDHL tried something new this season to gain more attention to the opening of league play. They hosted players to participate in "Game On," a game show featuring fun competitions among the players.
Previously, the SDHL piggybacked off the men's SHL, causing the league to be overshadowed in media. This year, things were different as SDHL players were put front and center in front of media and fans.
Among the activities players in the league competed in were on-ice skills competitions, breakaway challenges, a fastest skater competition, and showcasing their off-ice training in the weight room.
In the fastest skater competition, Elin Svensson of HV71 took top spot, only 1.79 seconds slower than Connor McDavid's mark.
Lulea will look to win yet another SDHL title this year, but challenges from across the league including Frolunda, MoDo, Brynas, and others will be greater than ever this season. The league has also become a major stepping stone for European players to reach the NCAA and now PWHL.
This year in the PWHL Draft, several players from the SDHL including Noora Tulus, Daniela Pejsova, Maja Nylen Persson, and many others were selected.
