According to reports, Jessica Campbell, a former Seattle Kraken assistant coach, will join the front office of the New Jersey Devils as Manager of Player Development
Following two seasons as an assistant coach with the NHL's Seattle Kraken, Jessica Campbell is heading to New Jersey to become the organization's Manager of Player Development, according to reports by ESPN's Emily Kaplan.
Campbell joined Seattle in July 2024 and became the first full-time female assistant coach in NHL history after two seasons with the organization's AHL team, the Coachella Valley Firebirds. During her time with the Firebirds, Campbell helped lead the team to back-to-back Calder Cup Final appearances.
On April 30, the Kraken announced that Campbell would leave the organization upon completing her contract, saying she had "expressed her desire to explore other coaching roles across the League."
During her professional career, Campbell, a Cornell University graduate, played for the Calgary Inferno, helping lead them to the Clarkson Cup title in 2016, and for Sweden's Malmö Redhawks.
Campbell made her debut with Canada's National Women's Program in 2008 and would go on to become a two-time U18 Women's World medalist, and in 2010, she was named Most Valuable Player by the IIHF Directorate. She finished her U18 career tied with Marie-Philip Poulin for the all-time program scoring lead with 33 points (14 goals, 19 assists).
Campbell would go on to become a two-time silver medalist at the 4 Nations Cup (2015, 2016) and a two-time gold medalist with Canada’s National Women’s Development Team at the Nations Cup (2011, 2013) before announcing her retirement from hockey in 2017. Following her retirement, Campbell became the lead power-skating instructor and assistant coach of the Midget Female Prep team at the Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in Kelowna, B.C.
