Toronto Sceptres captain Blayre Turnbull will miss the entire 2026-27 PWHL season after announcing that she is expecting her first child, due in December.

Turnbull, 32, has been a cornerstone of Toronto’s franchise since being named one of the club’s three foundational signings ahead of the league’s inaugural season in 2023. She has served as captain of the Sceptres and has recorded 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 66 regular-season PWHL games, adding five points in nine playoff appearances.

The Stellarton, Nova Scotia native appeared in all 30 games during the 2025-26 season, posting 9 goals and 8 assists.

Internationally, Turnbull has been a mainstay for Canada, winning Olympic gold in 2022 and silver in 2018 and 2026 while also capturing multiple medals at the IIHF Women’s World Championship.

The Sceptres indicated that Turnbull will remain involved with the organization during the upcoming season as she prepares to welcome her growing family. Turnbull is the first PWHL player to take maternity leave from the league during their career.
