The New York Sirens and Boston Fleet swapped Jill Saulnier and Taylor Girard in a deal both teams feel adds value to their lineup.
The Boston Fleet and New York Sirens have completed the second trade of the season as they swap forwards Jill Saulnier and Taylor Girard.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Jill Saulnier to the Boston Fleet,” said Danielle Marmer, Fleet General Manager.
“Jill has achieved so much in her hockey career, including competing in two Olympic Games, and she brings a level of competitiveness and grit that will elevate our team on the ice. Beyond her skill, Jill’s experience and leadership will be invaluable in our locker room.”
Saulnier in 23 games with the New York franchise has only scored two points (a goal and an assist) and finished last season as a minus five.
The 32-year-old will look to bounce back with the change of scenery, as she adds even more depth to the Fleet forward group.
The New York Sirens will be getting younger in this deal with the acquisition of 26-year-old Taylor Girard.
“Adding Taylor to our roster brings not only a teammate who aligns perfectly with our organization’s values, but also a player whose physicality and disciplined approach to her role makes her a valuable asset in a league where every inch of the ice is a hard-fought battle,” said Pascal Daoust, Sirens General Manager.
In 28 games with the Fleet, split between this year and last year, Girard has scored four goal and two assists, while posting a minus seven.
Similarly to Saulnier, Girard is in need of a change of scenery as she will get a better opportunity to play higher in the lineup with New York.
The Sirens are hoping that they can bring out the potential of the former PHF 1st overall pick and bring more physically to their fast paced roster.
The New York Sirens and Boston Fleet face each other on January 31st in Lowell for the first time since completing the deal.
