Britta Curl-Salemme received the fifth and sixth measures of supplemental discipline in her two-year PWHL career, this time a one-game suspension and $250 fine for a dangerous hit to the head against Montreal's Kaitlin Willoughby and separate act against Abby Roque.
The PWHL Player Safety Committee has handed out a one-game suspension and $250 fine to Minnesota Frost forward Britta Curl-Salemme following two separate incidents during Game 1 of the PWHL Walter Cup Playoffs between Minnesota and the Montréal Victoire on Saturday afternoon.
"The suspension is a result of the major penalty and game misconduct assessed to Curl-Salemme for an illegal check to the head on opponent Kaitlin Willoughby at 19:12 of the second period," the PWHL's news release read. "In their review, the Player Safety Committee determined that Curl-Salemme made no attempt to play the puck as she raised her forearm to make direct contact with the head of her opponent, where such contact to the head was avoidable."
Following the game, Minnesota head coach Ken Klee defended Curl-Salemme's actions.
"Yeah, I mean, it's tough, Britta's awesome. She's a great great player, great person in our room, plays hard, plays the right way, plays physical," said Klee. "I mean, she's not out there obviously trying to hurt anyone. She's out there just trying to play hard."
Curl-Salemme recieved a fine for a second incident in the same game due to an altercation with Montreal's Abby Roque that left Roque with significant bruising on her face, which she confirmed came from Curl-Salemme in post game comments.
"In their review, the Player Safety Committee determined that Curl-Salemme grabbed and pulled Roque’s facial protector, sending her opponent to the ice with a degree of violence that warrants supplemental discipline," the PWHL wrote.
This is Curl-Salemme's fifth and sixth measure's of supplemental discipline.
In March of this season, Curl-Salemme received her fourth supplemental discipline, when she "raised her stick with both arms and struck her opponent while she was in a vulnerable position with a forceful cross-checking motion."
During the 2025 playoffs, Curl-Salemme was also suspended for one game when she "delivered a high and forceful check on opponent Renata Fast, making the head the main point of contact on a play where such contact to the head was avoidable."
Earlier that season Curl-Salemme was suspended when she used "her stick to recklessly and dangerously make contact with [Theresa] Schafzahl in the neck and head." For that incident, she received a one-game suspension," and then again when she "extended her elbow upward and outward as she delivered a high hit on opponent Megan Carter, making her head the main point of contact."
Montreal and Minnesota face off for game two of their season on Tuesday, May 5.
