Ottawa has secured a key asset for their blueline, signing Czechia national team captain Aneta Tejralova to a one-year contract.

"She is an incredibly experienced defender who has played at the highest level of the game," said Ottawa GM Mike Hirshfeld. "We are excited to have her veteran presence on our blue line."

Tejralova spent last season with the PHF's Boston Pride and has been playing in Sweden with MoDo to open the 2023-2024 season.

She signed a contract with MoDo with an exit clause allowing her to join the PWHL in time for training camp next week.

"We were aware that Aneta could break her contract to try her luck in the PWHL and therefore this does not come like a bolt from the blue," said MoDo's Björn Edlund in a translated statement. "We want to say a big thank you to her for what she has done for us so far; she has contributed greatly to MoDo Hockey and we hope that our paths will cross again."

Tejralova had eight points in 13 games in the SDHL this season from MoDo's blueline.

Now she'll be reunited with Czech teammate Katerina Mrazova and head coach Carla MacLeod in Ottawa, as well as PHF teammate Becca Gilmore who signed with Ottawa earlier in the week.

Tejralova has helped Czechia win back-to-back World Championship bronze medals, which she'll aim to make three medals at the 2024 IIHF World Championships in Utica, New York.
