The search for a new head coach has ended for the Vancouver Goldeneyes. 

Earlier today, the team announced that inaugural season general manager Cara Gardner Morey has been named Vancouver's new head coach, taking over for former Goldeneyes bench boss Brian Idalski. 

“I'm excited to return to coaching,” Gardner Morey said in a press release. “Over the course of the offseason, I spent a lot of time reflecting and discussing what was best for our team and for me personally. Through that process, I realized how much I missed being behind the bench. While I continue to be incredibly proud of what we built in Vancouver during our inaugural season, coaching is where I know I can make the biggest impact. To have the opportunity to coach the roster we've assembled is an incredible privilege, and I can't wait for us to take the ice later this year.”

Gardner Morey joined the Goldeneyes after nearly 15 seasons in coaching roles with Princeton University, eight of which she spent as the team's head coach. The team won their first ECAC championship under her lead in 2019-20, taking down Quinnipiac University, Clarkson University, and Cornell University en route to the win. She departed from Princeton with the second-highest winning rate of all coaches in club history. 

Gardner Morey's move to head coach comes only a couple of months after a PWHL expansion process that saw Vancouver retain the bulk of their core players. They also added to their core by selecting first-overall pick Caroline Harvey, fellow defenders Jules Constantinople and Ashley Messier, forward Thea Johansson, and goaltender Katie DeSa. 

With Gardner Morey taking on the role of head coach, Vancouver will now begin the search for a new general manager, with the search beginning immediately.
