While 90 of the Worlds top players were selected in the PWHL Draft, many veteran stars went unselected, but will be hot commodities as PWHL teams begin the next round of free agency.
The PWHL Draft completed their 90 player selection from Taylor Heise at first overall, to Lina Ljungblom at 90th.
While most of the world's top players were selected, a large number of talented players remain on the market for teams to recruit to fill out their rosters. Each team still needs to fill five roster spots, meaning there are 30 roster spots available league wide.
Here's a look at the top available.
Forwards
Former PHF MVP Mikyla Grant-Mentis went through the PWHL Draft unselected, as did the PHF's second all-time leading scorer Madison Packer, who captained the Metropolitan Riveters last year. Both would make excellent additions to any team in the league, providing a physical element and veteran depth scoring.
American national team member Becca Gilmore, who spent last season with the PHF's Boston Pride also went unselected, as did speedsters Allie Thunstrom and Jonna Albers who remain two of the best skaters in the world.
The list of available forwards also includes former USA national team members Amanda Pelkey and Haley Skarupa. Other players who could earn free agency looks up front include Kelly Babstock, Kaitlyn Tougas, Natalie Snodgrass, Akane Shiga, Catie Skaja, Abigail Boreen, Sarah Bujold and Rosalie Demers. Still others including Leah Lum, Alena Mills, Fanni Gasparics, and Sarah Lefort could earn tryout calls.
Defenders
The most notable omission was Claire Thompson, who declared for the draft, but if she plays anywhere, will land in New York, as she's finishing medical school at NYU.
As for players available to the larger pool, Kaleigh Fratkin and Dominique Kremer were former PHF defenders of the year. Fratkin in particular could step into any PWHL team's 4-5 spot on the point, and once on a roster, will likely earn her way up the lineup. She's the PHF version of Jocelyne Larocque. Blueliners Nicole LaMantia and Patti Marshall also remain available, as do PHF blueliners Saroya Tinker, Tori Horwan, Emma Keenan, and Catherine Daoust will all be players to watch.
Goaltenders
Toronto is the lone team with only one goaltender in the organization entering the PWHL's second free agency period, but they have endless options to secure their net. Future Hall of Famer Noora Raty inexplicably went unselected in the draft, but she's not alone. USA national team veterans Alex Cavallini and Maddie Rooney were also passed on. It seems logical Gina Kingsbury will target one of these three as a safety net for Kristen Campbell.
Young netminders Blanka Skodova and Cami Kronish weren't selected, but both are already playing in Europe and will get big minutes to develop this year.
The group of PHF and PWHPA netminders, along with a handful who played in Europe last year remains deep for Toronto to choose from, and for teams to secure as a third netminder for practices and injury security.
